Tide of Darkness

TIDE OF DARKNESS/FLOOD

The last part of the dance trilogy created in collaboration with artists from Greenland and Scandinavia. In the first two installments our entrypoint was the encounter with the indigenous people. In “Tide of Darkness” we include a literary angle. We are inspired by Virginia Woolf’s classic novel “The Waves”.

Like the novel, “Tide of Darkness” encompass 4 people/voices whose communication consists of metaphors for waves. The entwined bodies of the four dancers dissolve and makes new patterns. It is like the wave/the flood in constant motion.

The music is composed song and organ with a sound design of waves and song from the four voices. One of the voices is a Sami shown through the yoik (traditional Sami song). On the stage the light wanders and illuminates more and more of the stage as the flood draws near. In short, there is no stagnation in “Flood”: everything is in constant movement, everything changes and everything transforms to something new. Thereby hope is indicated by the end of this last part of the dance trilogy.
